Conductor : Kevin Gillam

Kevin Gillam.jpgKevin Gillam is a Western Australian born conductor, 'cellist and music educator. After graduating with a Bachelor of Music (Hons) in performance on 'cello, he worked in the WA Symphony and Arts Orchestras. As a music teacher he has worked at Leeming, Scarborough, Rossmoyne and Churchlands Senior High Schools and is currently Director of Music at Christ Church Grammar School. He is a regular conductor of the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, and has also conducted the Fremantle Orchestra and other private school string orchestras. He also holds the degrees of Masters of Business Administration, Graduate Diploma in Education and Graduate Diploma in English. In addition to music, he has a keen interest in poetry, and has two books of poems published with SunLine Press.

In 1999 he conducted the premiere performance of 'Indian Pacific' by James Ledger at the WA Conservatorium with the Perth Modern School Symphony Orchestra, conducting the piece again with the Fremantle Symphony Orchestra in 2003. He has appeared as 'cello soloist with the Allegri Orchestra in 2002/03/04, and with the Perth Doctors' Orchestra in 2007. In 2002 he was broadcast on ABC FM in a performance of Messiaen's 'Quartet for the End of Time'. He has also had two books of poems published, in 2003 and 2007.
